Gestalt therapy

"Gestalt therapy is an existential and experiential psychotherapy that focuses on the individual's experience in the present moment, the therapist-client relationship, the environmental and social contexts in which these things take place, and the self-regulating adjustments people make as a result of the overall situation. It emphasizes personal responsibility".

This encourages change for a moment in time. Enforcing change on the person for a moment. Like saying "i" instead of "it". Or changing your movement to an exagerration. Could i make an installation where someone has to change their behaviour for a moment.

I am considering the key words of each kind of therapy. Gestalt therapy:
-Take responsibility
-Facilitating the process and then changing it
-Prompting you to imagine and deal with that person straight away.
-Discover your own process
-Recover the loss potential
-Talk about how you feel right now

Caged model

The idea is to push the clothing into the space to make for a more comfortable seat. I quite like how it is playful in that you can position it.

I am starting to consider how I can bring in playfulness to the furniture, such as a childs dart board with Velcro. The reason for this is to not look down on the hoarding; as the psychotherapist said hoarders feel as if they are in the wrong they seek to be perfect. The idea is to encourage you not to feel bad about it, and by turning the furniture into something fun and enjoyable also helps the hoarder live with the compulsion a little easier, for the short term.

small model: poke chair

The idea is to poke the clothing through the holes. Except the clothing couldl be much longer than that so i need to consider whether it will still be functional.

Kathryn Zawila

"When approaching this subject area was not to encourage a behaviour?

When I first began researching OCD i thought it would be best to design objects/interventions to help people to carry out there compulsions but was advised by many doctors and pscychologists not to encourage a compulsion, rather to help sufferers to recognise a behaviour and try and control it.

I just focused on research to gain a good an understaning as possible, and also talking to people, sufferers, their families, self help groups, all offer valuable insight".

landfill

How do objects get compressed in landfill?

How do objects get compressed in landfill?

"Landfills may include internal waste disposal sites (where a producer of waste carries out their own waste disposal at the place of production) as well as sites used by many producers. Many landfills are also used for other waste management purposes, such as the temporary storage, consolidation and transfer, or processing of waste material (sorting, treatment, or recycling)".
